Longevity of Relationships

October is my favorite month of the year.  One reason is the weather.  I just love this cool weather and the beautiful days.  The main reason for my love of October is that our wedding anniversary is October 18.  Carolyn and I actually planned our anniversary around Fall Break so that we could take some time off together and celebrate.  Sometimes we get to get away but some years like this one we stay home and find things to do together.  We do not get allot of time together since she works two jobs.  So, when we do find that time, it is special.  We have been married 32 years.  Before that we dated 5 years.  That is longevity.
Also this October I got to spend 3 nights camping with my best friend from my youth.  Doug, lives in Natural Dam, AK and we may see each other once a year.  Fortunately we have got to camp the last two.  I have known Doug since 3rd grade.  Let me calculate those years.  I believe that our third grade year would have been the 1963-64 school year.  That would make it over 48 years that I have known Doug.  That is a long time to remain best friends.  When I think about having relationships that last as long as mine with my wife and best friend I think first that I am so blessed that someone would be so committed to me that long and that they really do care about me.  There is nothing superficial.  Also, it shows that I must be one that is committed to them as well.  I am indeed a blessed man.  I love October.
